Nipple projection and width can sometimes be disproportionate with the breast size and shape. Decreasing the width of the nipple is accomplished with a wedge reduction. The projection can be reduced by circumferential skin reduction centrally. Both techniques can be performed under local anesthesia in the office or at the time of the breast augmentation procedure. The sensation of the nipple should not be affected by this procedure. A small reduction can lead to significant improvement in how patients feel about their breast appearance and overall body image.
